What Is Apron Feeder
Apron feeder is a mechanical type of feeder used in material handing operations to feed material to other equipment or extract material from storage stockpiles, bins or hoppers at a controlled rate of speed. They provides better feed control to prevent material feeding in downstream equipment from choking, absorb the shock of loading material directly onto the feeder with a shallow bed, and reclaim a variety of dry or wet materials of various sizes at a uniform rate.
How an Apron Feeder Works
An apron feeder is usually installed under the opening at the discharge end of a hopper, which is to convey material from hopper to the delivery point at a controllable constant speed. It consists of a frame, undercarriage components, head shaft, tail shaft, feeder pan, transmission system and a motor. The undercarriage chain wraps around the head shaft and tail shaft, and the feeder pan are bolted to the strands of chain. The chain and feeder pan combination rides on undercarriage rollers. When the head shaft rotates, the material in the hopper is pulled out of the opening by the movement of the feeder pans, and it provides a material flow.
