What Is Sand Washer
The sand (fine material) washer is used to wash, classify and dewater solids materials in one machine. It can remove impurities covering the surface of sand and gravel, and destroy the water vapor layer of the coated sand to facilitate dehydration and play a important role in sand washing. Sand washers are widely used by construction sand producers, mining companies and glass recycling plants.

How Sand Washer Works
Sand or other fine material feeds to the feed box of sand washer, and the coarse or heavier materials settle to the bottom of the box, while ultra-fine waste fractions are carried by the up-current of water to the surface and overflow the weirs. Heavier material that settles to the bottom is conveyed up an 18-degree slope toward the discharge end. As the material is conveyed toward the discharge end, the water begins to separate from the material. A channel in the washer box/tub is provided opposite the conveying side to allow water to drain from the solids and overflow the weirs.

This is accomplished by the continuous rotation of the spiral conveyor shaft and the velocity of overflowing wastewater acting on the feed material. The rotating shaft causes the feed material to roll and tumble, which in turn provides particle-on-particle attrition. This action allows deleterious coatings to be removed from the solids and discharged with the overflowing wastewater. FW fine material washers are available in either single or double screw configurations, and selection is primarily a function of capacity requirements.
